Simple Farmhouse Decor: How to Make your own DIY Wood Bead Garland
This rustic DIY wood bead garland took only a few minutes to put together and can be used in so many different ways in your home decor.
This DIY wood bead garland only took about 10 minutes to make. I’m so excited to share quite possibly the easiest little project I’ve ever made.
The wood bead garland is part of another month of Simple Farmhouse Decor! On the first Sunday of the month, I’ve been sharing a simple DIY or craft with a signature farmhouse look.
I know it’s not the first Sunday of the month, but, there are so many other fun things planned for next week, that I had to push for a week early this month!
Over the past few months, I’ve completed so many fun projects. I absolutely love this little series I have going on here. Each farmhouse-style project only takes a few minutes, and a few dollars to complete.
If you’ve been following along, you know I love the simple look of natural wood. Check out my other DIY oversized wood bead garland here.
But, for this month, I also wanted to do a Christmas-y project. I couldn’t quite figure out how to marry the two until I came across a few DIY wood bead garland projects floating around Pinterest.
I knew I had to try it!

Supplies for DIY Wood Bead Garland:
Step 1. Grab Supplies for DIY Wood Bead Garland
My kiddos and I hopped in the car to head to Michaels! Well, we didn’t make it through the front door. Let me tell you, the terrible 2’s have come a few months early. And they are quite terrible.
Later that evening, I snuck out of the house sans kiddos to head back to Michaels. Alone. It’s always a dangerous time.
I was so surprised at how many wood beads they had! I ended up getting 4 different-sized beads and used some extra twine I had left at home.
Step 2. String Wood Beads onto Twine
And, you guys, this project is literally as easy as stringing beads onto twine.
You do (or technically don’t) have to come up with a pattern to follow. Below I showed the pattern I just randomly came up with.
I had most of the tiniest beads so I wanted to use more of them. Other than that, I just popped some beads on and went with it!
Step 3. Tie off the twine to finish
I continued until I ran out of one size of beads. Tie some knots at the ends to hold on to the last bead and a loop on either side to hold the garland onto hooks. And. That. Is. It.
How cute is it?!
Step 4. Hang the DIY Wood Bead Garland
I knew just where I wanted to put it. Â Hanging on the mantel with some faux garland I made. Â It’s a simple, farmhouse look.
The possibilities are endless!! You could use it as garland for your tree, wrapped around your banister, or just lying and snaked through decor on shelves.
This project was nice and simple and had such a big impact on our mantle. I simply love how quickly I was able to bring in some Christmas touches to our living room.
Have you started decorating for Christmas? Or still hanging on to fall? This DIY wood bead garland is the perfect baby step to start getting your home in the Christmas spirit.
I can’t wait for the next few weeks! Christmas is my favorite time of the year and I’m going to be smothering you with Christmas cheer. Be prepared 😉

Wishing you a joyful day!

This is so unique and very easy to make. I once used those wooden balls to make wooden ball sachets to put in the drawers. Those balls have so many possibilities. I like this so much for holiday.

Thanks Kati!! I’m so glad you like the wood bead garland 🙂
I was searching and searching for wood bead garlands and they are all sold out at every Target. A lightbulb went off and I said duh..Pinterest!! Let’s make one myself and save me the frustration and make one. Thank you so much for this beautiful idea and making it super simple to make.
One question..do you remember how many of each size of beads you bought. So I have an idea of how much to buy. Thanks so much!
When all else fails turned to Pinterest 😉 And I honestly don’t remember how many wood beads I bought for the garland, which is really bad. It depends on where you get them, too. For instance, Michaels sells them but you don’t get as many for the price. I got ones for a wood bead chandelier (haven’t shared yet on the blog) from Amazon and they were much, much cheaper. Plus, more came in a pack. Check out what you can find on Amazon and make your pattern based on what you pick up! Happy crafting 🙂
I’m so glad I found you on Pinterest! Your blog is beautiful! And this post is perfect….I’ve been wanting to make a wood-bead garland myself, and I should’ve known it’d be this easy! Lol. Great job! 😉 Btw, I just signed up for your newsletter, so I’m excited to keep in touch! 😉
Aww thank you SO much Katie!! And thanks for signing up for the newsletter 🙂 You should definitely make your own wood bead garland. I use it everywhereeee and it flows through all the seasons.
Do you remember roughly how much your wooden bead garland cost? How long is it? It’s so vintage looking. Love it.
Hi Barb! I honestly don’t, which makes me a bad blogger haha. It’s about 3 ft long. To save money, I would order them on Amazon or somewhere that sells them in bulk rather than at Michaels. Unless Michaels is having a big sale. Hope that helps!
What size beads did you buy?
Where do you find your beads for your projects? Beautiful!!
Amazon!! They have them at Michaels, too.
How do you thread the twine through he beads?! I can’t seem to get it done!
I used tape to wrap the ends tightly so it fit through the hole and also didn’t fray. I think I had to redo the tape once or twice, too. Hope that helps!
What size beads did you use?
I am late in the game and am currently searching for the most beads for the best price. Do you remember or can you measure the size of your 2 biggest beads? This is the problem with buying online I can’t quite tell how big they are.
Thank you for your help with this. I love these wood bead garlands with tassels.
?
I see that you haven’t answered this question yet, but if you’re checking back to your comments, can you share what size beads you used? For me, that’s the difference between ordering online and picking up in the stores: I can see what the different sizes are in my hands vs. trying to envision or measure out different mm sizes.
Thanks!
Hi Sarah,
I am hosting a large craft day (My 7th year) and I would LOVE to do this. Can you remember just how many beads are needed for 5 feet of twine? I am offering 5ft. 10ft. and 15 ft.
Also, How many feet is your adorable garland swag?
This is a great tutorial that anyone can follow.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful accent!
Has anyone ever figured out what size beads she used?
Could you please share the different size beads you used please?
Love this! What size beads did you use for this garland?
Please let us all know what size beads you used and how many of each!!!!!!??
Love this! I wanted to purchase one – seriously I can’t find one that has different sized beads! Now I need to find your faux garland 🙂
